Mr. Browning stated that an architect must look at a building as the “whole package.” If one does not have any clue of what the mechanical or structural designs will be, the architect will not know anything about the building to be designed – architects should not be solely “form” designers and architects. The idea of taking into account the structural, mechanical, and air system design as a hugely significant aspect to the entire building’s design influenced not just Mr. Browning’s approach to architecture but the entire firm of Scott, Louie and Browning.

William (Bill) Boyle Browning was one of Salt Lake City’s most decorated modernist architects, with a prolific career spanning decades in the Intermountain West. 515 “Wildewood” Tower was one of the crowning high rise designs that he designed in his career.

Designed in 1979, Construction began roughly 1980 and took a year to complete, finishing in 1981. It’s steel reinforced concrete structure and double-paned glazing was a sign of more efficient and sustainable construction and design methods.

An independent study and renovation was completed by McNeil Engineering to the Parking structures, including a full assessment of the Tower’s structural integrity and minor repair work to ensure continued safety was maintained.

To help conserve energy all of the mechanical and electrical systems are monitored and regulated by an in-house computer. In addition, chilled water storage and evaporative cooling systems are being used to improve energy efficiency.

Both the tower and parking garage are fully fire sprinklered and alarmed. Tenant safety is enhanced by 24-hour manned security, computerized life safety systems and an after-hours card key building access system.

Floors 4-14 offer unobstructed views of the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains, downtown Salt Lake City and the Utah State Capitol building. The building’s park-like landscaping offers tenants and visitors a serene environment.

Steel reinforced concrete with a custom-fired face brick exterior and high-performance, tinted, double-pane tempered glass. Updated interior finishes throughout and new building standard finishes abound in newly renovated spec suites.
